How to choose an exterior look

The shape of your house decides which looks will sit naturally on it, because the tool keeps your rooflines, windows and doors. A long, low house suits Updated Ranch House, Desert Modernism House or Googie Mid-Century House. A symmetrical two-storey house suits Federal-Style Brick House or Limewashed Brick Colonial. A simple gable suits Board-and-Batten House, Black Timber House or Modern Farmhouse Exterior.

Then settle the colors: one for the walls, one for the trim and one for the front door. Look at your roof before choosing the walls: it rarely changes, and every color scheme has to work with it.

What these exterior ideas cover

Modern: Black Timber House, Warm Beige House with Black Trim, Desert Modernism House, Postmodern Colour-Block House and Updated Ranch House. Farmhouse and cabin: Board-and-Batten House, Modern Farmhouse Exterior, Barndominium with a Wraparound Porch, Modern Log Cabin and Timber A-Frame Cabin. Traditional: Cape Cod Cottage, Federal-Style Brick House, Limewashed Brick Colonial, Tudor Revival House, Painted Lady Victorian and Spanish Colonial Revival House. Craftsman: Bungalow with a Deep Front Porch and Olive Green Craftsman Bungalow. Mid-century: Googie Mid-Century House. One change only: Statement Front Door Entry. Open any idea to see its color palette, the materials it uses and a few tips for getting the look, so you can borrow one part of it instead of the whole house.

Smaller changes first

Not every idea needs new siding. Statement Front Door Entry changes only the door and adds tall planters. Limewashed Brick Colonial changes the color of the brick but keeps it. Warm Beige House with Black Trim is a new wall color with dark frames and gutters.

To try colors on the materials you already have, use the Exterior Paint Visualizer. It repaints one surface at a time, like the siding, the trim or the front door, and leaves the rest as it is. Plants by the door, a new house number and an outside light are other small changes; describe them in your own words when you generate.

Try an idea on your own house

Press "Design this" on any idea. The tool opens Exterior Design with the idea's house style set and its image as the style reference. Upload a straight-on daylight photo of the front of your house and generate. The materials, colors, roof and trim come from the idea; the shape, rooflines and window positions come from your photo. Check each result and generate again if a detail moved. You can also add a few words of your own, like "keep the brick" or "black front door", to steer the result.

Lite is quicker and uses fewer credits; Max shows more detail and stays closer to your photo. New accounts get free credits to start, no card required.

Häufig gestellte Fragen

Are these photos of real houses?

No. Each idea is a design concept rendered with AI to show one look clearly. Use it for the colors, materials and mood, then press "Design this" to see that look on a photo of your own house.

Will it change the shape of my house?

It is made to keep the footprint, rooflines and window and door positions, and to change materials, colors, roof and trim. Check each result before you rely on it.

Can I change only the colors?

Use the Exterior Paint Visualizer. It repaints one surface at a time, such as the siding, trim, front door, roof or garage door.
